How to fall in love again

“I choose to see love instead of this.”

This is one of my favorite prayers. You can also call it an intention if the word prayer freaks you out. I’m not judging.

You can use this prayer anytime you feel resistance, fear, or a sense of unease about something. There are many things in our lives that we just can’t see with compassion or love. And that’s ok. We are human. But, when we notice this, it’s a good time to admit to ourselves that somehow we aren’t seeing the truth, the love.

So, ask to see it differently. Ask to see peace or love instead of the resistant way you are seeing it. It’s only hurting you to see it with angry eyes, no one else. Do yourself a favor next time you are on fire and slow down, take a breath and ask to see love instead of the way you are seeing something.

You don’t have to force a new thought into your head. Let a new, loving one come to you. You’ll know its there because it will feel a little bit better, maybe a lot better.  A new perspective will have come to you. This prayer works with out fail every time. It might not happen right away. But it will always happen when it’s supposed to happen. Just be open to seeing something differently and you will be shown the loving version.

This is true because we live in an inside out world, not outside in. Inside out meaning that our entire reality is based upon our own thoughts. We project our perception of the world out onto it. The outside world has no meaning. It’s not the other way around like we are mistakenly taught. If you believe in this misperception, you think that something mean someone said to you will make you feel angry.  The truth is that it’s your thoughts about them that make you angry. Crazy huh? This is a wild illusion and one many of us fall for. But the more we realize our thoughts make up our entire reality, the more freedom we have.

We will begin to question a lot. And that’s a good thing! We can choose not to believe a lot of the junk that goes on up there if it feels fearful in any way. Wait for it to pass. It will. That’s the nature of thought. Since we are born mentally well and we are always mentally well underneath the fearful thoughts, fresh new thought, from that space of well being is always on its way to us if we aren’t gripping so tightly to the fearful thought by believing it. Trust me, it’s going to look real and try to do a good job on convincing us other wise. You are smarter though.

So now that you understand this prayer and why it’s important to ask to see a new perception of something instead of change it on the “outside”, let’s try an experiment.

So, again, because of our perception, we see what we are looking for and maybe not the actual truth of what is right in front of us. If you have a lifetime of personal, subjective opinions build up about a person then they are going to look to you like the picture you have painted about them in your mind. Yet, you aren’t really seeing the person as they are in the present. So, if you perceive your husband or wife or girlfriend to be one way, you are only going to see those traits and miss the other 50% of traits this persons has, that you aren’t even giving yourself the gift of receiving. If you see your husband as a jerk, you are going to only see the “jerk” things, and miss the sweet things he says. They will go unnoticed.

Experiment with friends and family. Before an interaction with them, intend to see love instead of the way you see them. Be present with them. Listen to them with an open mind. Show up as if you have never met this person before. Give them the benefit of the doubt. I bet you’ll begin to see new things you’ve never seen before. And they have been there all along. Here’s to falling in love all over again.
