Permission To Play

The most 'funnest', coolest, shortest cut to healing.

There is an epidemic spreading through America. Overworkitis. Somehow, somewhere along the line, we collectively decided to believe that we are supposed to work really hard, make lots of sacrifices, squash our dreams, think passion is only for special people and limit the word fun from our vocabulary. I’m here to take a stand against that mumbo jumbo and attempt to show you the other side of the coin.

If you are pursuing your passion and work feels fun, then great, you are on the right track. But there are so many Americans who were raised with certain belief systems that they continue to cling to and believe as true when it isn’t THEIR truth. It’s their parents’ or teachers’ or societies’ truth. “ I have to work hard to pay the bills.” “Money doesn’t come easy.”  “ Life is a struggle.” These are only a few examples. I’m sure you can figure out which ones you have held on to and see as true. And when we see them as true, our mind will continue to show us examples of these statements for the rest of our lives, so we can continue to prove ourselves right. But living here allows us to only see such a small piece of the pie.

I believe in a good Universe. I also believe that if we are too closed minded to believe there is good out there, we will never see it. So my burning desire is to invite you to be open. Just be open to seeing things differently. Be open to life being fun or money coming easily or actually enjoying your job. Be open to being wrong about everything you know. Because “everything you know” is technically a bunch of stored information in your brain that you gathered from well meaning parents and friends and society. But what makes that the truth? Your truth? Your own personal truth lives within you and has all the answers you need for your highest good. Your road to peace. There are many paths there.

I have been attempting to travel down a few different ones over the past 5 years of my spiritual awakening. Which makes me a great person to tell you about a short cut. First you need to let go of the idea that life is a hard, crappy, struggle and be open to seeing the love.  Second, you need to play. I’m giving you the permission.  Do things you enjoy doing. Every day. Make time for it. Play. Be silly. Go outside. Take breaks. Go on vacation. Trust that by doing these things; you will experience more love and healing than you’ve ever imagined possible.

When we play, have fun or enjoy ourselves, we are connected to our true self and when we are connected to our true self our heart is open, and when our heart is open we are vibrating high, and when we are vibrating high, we are receiving light and love and healing and giving light and love and healing. In the space of play, we create space in our mind. We give our mind a chance to breathe, to stop thinking so much. And in the space of breathing, new ideas enter into our mind, healing enters our bodies, light touches our hearts. These new ideas are the divine ones that live beyond thought. They are the ones that will give us the answers to an easier, more abundant life. They’ll tell us who to call to make easy money, or what class to take to start pursing your passion. Any idea imaginable, that is more true to you, can come through in this space. But if you continue to live the belief that life is hard, you’ll never see these new thoughts. I’m here to tell you that new, loving thoughts are on their way to you all the time, 24 hours a day, because we are born love; we are made of love. That never goes away. The only reason we don’t feel it sometimes is because we are lost in thought and then believe that thought as true.
So, I’m giving you a crazy, rad short cut here. And it’s fun! Go do your hobbies. Take up a cooking class, garden, read a book, have more sex, watch your favorite romantic comedies, take walks, adopt a dog, go camping, whatever it is that makes your heart smile. And if you don’t know what that is yet, be open to finding your joys. Write a list of what you loved to do as a kid and then what you plan to do when you retire. Then do more of that stuff NOW. I’m giving you permission to play. Give yourself the permission too.

If you don’t believe me, look at other countries. They take more vacations, days off, naps and long meals than we do. They are as a whole, happier and healthier than America. I think they’ve got it figured out.

When you are sucked down the thought storm, thinking you need to work more, find that little kid inside that so badly wants to come out and play and let them. Let them breathe! They will pay you back ten fold. It may feel scary to pull yourself away and play every day, but experiment with it and then tell me how wonderful your life is opening up, tell me all the new ideas that flood in, tell me how much more calm and creative you have become. If you need my support to remind you to play, then write me. I’ll be your rock here. I know it’s hard to pull away sometimes.

But just remember: Play and the healing shall pour in. Play and your connection to your heart will open. Play and the sunshine will seem brighter. Play and life will be fun again.
